So what is the solution here? That’s the easiest guide I’ve found so far. Otherwise, if the IDE controller like my SiI card isn’t supported by Microsoft’s IDE controller driver that comes on the Windows CD, Setup won’t even find the hard disk—you will need to either slipstream the driver into the installation image and burn the slipstream Windows installation CD, or use an F6 floppy carrying your IDE controller’s driver. I’m guessing this is because the drivers need to be updated for my motherboard for the hard drive and therefore the operating system to be found. Mine does, though I generally maintain a Windows XP installation CD image with the latest service pack and recent hotfixes slipstreamed in anyway, so it isn’t much effort to add in a driver as well. You can check out this mod in the zhci below, but you are probably out of luck with your ICH7. Then it doesn’t matter if the controller’s using SATA or not, since Windows doesn’t have to boot off it initially.
ATA / SATA / AHCI madness on Gigabyte P35 DS3P ?
Hi ive just been getting my first ssd drive a Samsung whci but the magician software I get with it is telling me I need to activate ahci mode for the best performance My motherboard is a gigabyte G31M-ES2L and does not have an option in the bios to change it The ssd is working but I just feel its not as fast as it could be and the software is sort of confirming this.
But then the system notified me about the updates, which I accepted and it installed.
I click on repair and then this is where the problem I am p35-ss3 happens. I had to have the SATA2 drive sitting outside my computer to do this but it was worth the instant gratification boot up after I changed the boot drive.

It’s the same deal, really. Wed Jan 02, 4: I had no problem installing windows xp and linux except that grub boot manager which seems to have problems finding the second stage loader when the JMicron p35-s3 is NOT in AHCI mode. Ars Scholae Palatinae Registered: Now it won’t load up Windows Vista.

On your motherboard those may be purple in color while the ICH ports may be orange. I’m not sure you do, but just in case.
